2021 Sang de Pigeon Shiraz, Barossa Valley

2021 Sang de Pigeon Shiraz, Barossa Valley

Sang de Pigeon (pigeon’s blood) is a nod to my former life as a jewellery valuer. It’s the trade term for the colour of the finest rubies, invariably from the Mogok Stone Tract in Myanmar. The precious grapes for this fragrant and deeply coloured wine were grown far to the south-east, in South Australia’s Barossa Valley.

For wine nerds like me: Fair winter rains and a cool summer gave us a healthy crop of excellent quality. Hand-picked from Smyth Road, Stonewell Road and a single bin from Eden Valley. 77% destemmed, 23% whole bunch, wild fermented, pressed to French oak, matured for 20 months in barrel (28% new).

4280 bottles produced.
